Preparing for Your Pet Sitter's First Visit

· By Lucy Bennett

You've booked your meet and greet — exciting! Here's how to make sure everything goes smoothly and your pet sitter has everything they need to provide the best possible care.

Before the Meet and Greet

The meet and greet is your chance to introduce your pet sitter to your pets and your home. It's always free, always required, and usually takes about 30-45 minutes. Here's what to have ready:

For Your Pets

  • Feeding schedule — what they eat, how much, and when
  • Medication details — names, dosages, times, and how to administer
  • Vet information — practice name, phone number, insurance details
  • Behaviour notes — any triggers, fears, or quirks your sitter should know about
  • Favourite things — toys, treats, sleeping spots, comfort items

For Your Home

  • Keys — spare set, or key safe code and location
  • Alarm code — entry and exit instructions
  • Heating controls — how to adjust if needed
  • Bin day — which bin, which day
  • Any home care tasks — plants, post, etc.

During the Meet and Greet

Your sitter will walk through a handover checklist with you, meeting each pet individually, testing keys and alarm codes, and confirming all care instructions. Everything is recorded digitally so nothing gets missed.

Don't worry about forgetting something — you can always update your care instructions through your online portal, even while you're away.
